The answer is no, according to this movie. I saw it when it first came to theaters back in 1990. It was intense, gory & somewhat scary.
At the time, I didn't realize that there was a message to it. The message was that our society needs to learn how to get past all our petty differences, including racism, in order to coexist & survive.
Unlike the 1968 cult classic, this movie features a "kick-ass" Barbara. Other than that, it's pretty much the 1968 black & white movie updated in color.
