Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda,” recounts the clash between Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Stuart (Mary, Queen of Scots) and ends with Mary heading to the executioner’s block. Everything is beautifully done and orchestrated! The entire cast is so talented, the costumes amazing, and the sets so artistic and symbolic. The camera work for the live HD is likewise awesome with very artful compositions of the scenes.The production stars the great American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in the title role. Her performance was astounding! She has it all — technique, sound, color, nuance, diction, acting — that totally engaged us the entire time and at times brought us to the point of tears.
