I enjoyed the opera very much, but I have many of the same complaints others have expressed. It started 25 minutes late, and, being an "encore" performance, we could have done with considerably less than two thirty minute intermissions. That's almost an hour and a half of sitting there NOT watching opera!
The relatively new theater ( now called the Regent, in St. Louis) produced a less than high def picture, and sub-par sound. Watching a DVD of this on my TV at home would have been more satisfying.
Much suspense when Alagna was going for those high notes, but he came through. Olga Boradina was not much of an actress, but her voice was in exceptional form. Her singing was flawless. The Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastryska, making her Met debut in this over-the-top production, has an absolutely gorgeous, powerful voice. She promises to be a big international presence in the near future.
