This movie is dear to our hearts and my daughter (avid film fan) considers its soundtrack her favorite of composer, John Williams' historic collaboration w Steven Spielberg. So we bought tix for this event right away - also eager to see intro by Ben Mankiewicz with Drew Barrymore, for some history & behind the scenes anecdotes.
Viewing this on the big screen was WONDERFUL. That scale reveals detailed expressions and amazing range of the young actors. The perspective & editing immediately pull audience into the action - from surreal atmosphere to natural interplay between children. These elements and "E.T"'s compelling character are beautifully served by the symphonic score -- building until it soars (along w Eliot and E.T.), echoing the characters' angst, and resolving as celestial tones key the transcendent theme.
{Initially disappointed when VENUE failed to project TCM's Intro until its final 3 min. Tho magic of E.T. needs no introduction, I'd like to see the piece separately
