I remembered watching this movie as a child and being totally enraptured by the misty California nights and Elliot's unique experience with a lost and lonely alien. This movie is imaginative and absorbing even today. In this world of slick computer generated images it is nice to see how shockingly realistic animatronics appear. And I have to admit, this movie still makes me cry. Spielberg has an incredible ability to weave a spell in which the audience feels like they're present in the world he has created on the screen, connected to the characters they're watching. There are few movies made today that engage me in this manner; most of them I won't even remember after a few weeks. But E.T. is an enduring classic because it makes viewers care. This is a special gift that no one should pass up. I highly recommend this movie to children young and old. And if you have a chance to see it on the big screen, do not hesitate to do so!
