The Met has taken Donizetti's soap-opera plot and thin characters, fleshed them out with wonderful voices, great direction, staging, costumes and makeup, and given us a fine evening of entertainment. Anna Netrebko (Lucia) is even a better actress than she is a singer (and her singing is wonderful). The orchestra never disappoints, and the harp solo was perfection, including the beautiful way it was filmed. Kudos to the Metropolitan Opera and this fine Encore series.
