The story was taken from an original book. Having studied and preformed Manon I read the original so many years ago in a Modern Library edtion that I can't recall the author. Of the 2 opera Manons, Puccini and Massenet, I go for Massenet's.
Netrebko's voice has gotten darker and heavier, making her French muddy. Needs a more lyric sound. She acted well and looked great.
Beczala's voice was clear and lyrical. Very romantic.
Lescaut, George Szot, great looks, acting and voice.
Last scene is always desolate.

The movie theater should be more aware of the sound and music they play before the operas.
Also the lighting. Thanks for making the Met live productions available.
