The performance was excellent. This early Verdi Opera is a revelation of how he composed it. Although the arias and ensembles are very good and dramatic, I cannot remember the tunes, as in later Verdi. Angela Mead is a promising young soprano, but not yet among the super-stars. She was a good actress, but her weight did not fit the part she played. The three suitors were all outstanding, specially Furlanetto and the Russian Hvorostrowski. Hvorostrowski used to be bland, but now he aquired great dramatic expertise and acting. All four principals were excellent actors.
