I loved this opera, much more than I expected to. None of the music--taken from at least three composers-- was familiar to me, but it seemed woven together seamlessly. When I read the plot from the handout it was most confusing, but once the opera started the actual action and characters, memorable and wonderfully cast, were easy to keep straight. The voices of the cast were wonderful, the stage settings were marvelous, and seeing the whole Metropolitan Opera audience on their feet at the multiple curtain calls gave me the feel of being part of a huge appreciative public. If you missed the simulcast, try to make it for the encore production.
