Another modern classic by the Met. I'm rather ambivalent about French opera, and was not all that excited by their Berlioz "Damnation of Faust": well sung, but ridiculous staging. Gounod's Faust is musically quite challenging, and Marina Poplovskaya, Jonas Kaufmann and Rene Paper were quite amazing. The 20th Century setting was relevant, and the set really worked for them.
