The movie asks the age old question of our constitution: Is justice available for all, no matter what the circumstances. The woman tried in the movie is assumed guilty by association. This is very similar to the post 9-1-1 environment or McCarthy era or many other historical events that were considered a threat to the nation's existance.

Following the end of the Civil War, albiet a not complete end, as the South was still armed and fighting in some areas, the fear was that the assination was the final attempt by the South to wrest victory from the jaws of defeat.


The movie was well done, the costumes and presentation seemed to capture the mood and the lighting seemed appropriate for the protrayal of the period. An excellent movie, typical of Mr. Redford's superb talent as a director and producer. Go see it. Oscar material.
