The Met production of Don Pasquale we experienced last Saturday was nothing short of wonderful.. The four principals, Netrebko, Polenzani,,Kwiecien, and De Carlo and lest we forget, the Notary who took his deserved bow along with the four principals all performed magnificently. The comedy was ripe, rambunctious and so well done. This classic brought out bubbly laughter and an inner joy. It was total satisfaction. James Levine and the Met Orchestra were also magnificent. Just one negative...the responsibility for which I don't know...the HD big screen reveals the Met stage and players in a very low contrast view. There are no whites at all in the view of the production. Only cream and muted colors. Lots of shadows. Is this the way it appears from to the Met' in house audience? Otherwise we are glad there is HD and look forward to Don Carlos,Iphigenie, Lucia, Trovatore , Comte D'Ory and Walkure.
