This is a tough opera to simply rate. Suffice it to say if one likes opera then he/she should go see this production. Huge cast, but Rene Pape as Boris especially was superb. His final monologue in the third act particular moved me.

I think conductor, Valerie Gergiev, expecially deserves kudos because more than any other person he is responsible for making Russian opera known to the world at large. It is a rich treasure and deserving of the attention it has received in recent years in the United States.

This Met production is a worthy entree.
