The Met's new version was marvelous, with inventive staging & glorious singing. Hoffman and his muse/sidekick are on stage for three acts, prologue and epilogue - this is olympic singing, but carried off with grace, flair, and apparent ease. Even minor parts - such as the "deaf" servant - were highlights of non-stop entertainment. Of course, if you expected this all to be sung in English you would be challenged, though the subtitles were always there as needed. I suspect that many if not most of those who attended already knew the story, had heard the music, and were there to enjoy it all "again" but with the added visual spice of a new production, and some quite good looking younger singers. I loved it!
