A devout Roman Catholic is torn between her desire to become a nun and her desires, period, in this excellently photographed melodrama by Kim Hyeon-myeong. Just as Agada (I Bo-heui) is ready to take her nun's vows, she is called to the deathbed of her father. That detour leads to a series of difficulties that leave her confused and that separate her all the more from her intent to take the veil. After a strong attraction to the local priest ends with his escape to a Carmelite retreat, Agada meets and eventually marries a businessman. Life continues to be harsh -- and as she is driven to near despair, the Church rises to the fore as a solace in an emotional wasteland. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
