I'm going to be honest here, and after watching the movie you'll probably agree with everything I said here. Don't go in expecting action in your face (it's relatively slow paced), and I would suggest only going to it if you're a fan of Will Smith and Jayden Smith... like REALLY a fan. I would say the majority of the movie, pretty much all the scenes, are zoomed in on one or both of them. Jayden is trying really hard, and he'll be great, just not right now. Will Smith of course is great without even trying like always. Some might even wonder if this is kid friendly, well, yeah it's pretty kid friendly... ish... The lack of gore makes it kid friendly (mind you there is imagery of death after the fact) but there are some moments with some jump scares for some reason, so as long as the kids can handle that they'll be ok?. Save yourself the money and time, pass the theater experience for this one, wait till it hits Bluray, in fact, even better, wait till it's free on Netflix instant

It is a story about a boy who flunked as a ranger but proved his metal later on and it is also about a love for family this a great family move but some of the creature may be too frightening for children under 10.

AFTER the few touching moments between a Father and his only Son, and after the excellent computer generated graphics of some very wicked looking Beasties, I was left feeling like Will Smiths son's acting still needed some lessons. ALTHOUGH his acting has definitely has improved over earlier movies, he still needs a few more years to learn how to develop his characters a bit more. Excellent directing by M. Night and OVERALL a good movie that may have been better in 3D and is just between a So-So and a GO.

The movie had a great concept and plot but after all the promotional hype about the evolution of earth without humans 1000 years down the road, I went into the theater expecting some fascinatingly weird things, both animal and plant, to confront our heroes. What I was presented was just so disappointing. There were no new bad ***creatures and deadly plants...only animals I can see in the zoo right now, every day (albeit with a little added makeup to make them more interesting). Man, what a bunch of hype.
The other problem I had with this movie is that for it to be a summer blockbuster, it was just too slow, lacking the "Fast and Furious," and "Star Trek" thrill-a-minute action scenes. It's what audiences expect for this type of movie. The few suspense and action scenes that are in the move are great, but there are just too few.
I'm just disappointed. With added thrills and action, this could have been a great flick. What possibilities! Unfortunately, it's only pretty good.

The story was okay, the visual effects were nice but not too amazing like Iron Man or Star Trek.
Turn OFF: The material used to show the starship after crashed it seemed not believable. (more new age starship kind it, like curtains. cloths all over ???, etc)
The rest was interesting to see the son growing through his challenges.
I was concerned about the director which with the exception of the six sense and maybe signs (the end was so, so) the last half dozen movies that he did were not that great.
For me he is good in building the initial suspense and you think something amazing is going to happen but by the end of the movie unfortunately most of the time it comes out short (mentally when you see, you think is that it ???). If he could improve his endings I think it would help him. This movie was not too bad, predictable but with a nice ok end.
