Although he was knocked unconscious right in the path of the posse in chapter two of Adventures of Red Ryder, Red (Donald Barry) recovers in the nick of time and is saved by his friend, Cherokee Sims (Hal Taliaferro). Villainous Pecos Bates (Bud Geary), however, was not so lucky. Back in Mesquite, the newly founded Cattlemen's Association gather at the bank, where Banker Drake (Harry Worth) disingenuously promises to help the very same ranchers his own henchmen have either terrorized off their lands or outright murdered. The association decide to pool the earnings from the members' latest roundup and donate it to the needy neighbors, the money to be delivered by stagecoach. To safeguard the shipment against attacks from outlaws, Drake suggests that Sheriff Dade (Carleton Young) accompany the coach. And, sure enough, the shipment is held up by some of Ace Hanlon's (Noah Beery) henchmen. But Red has anticipated this turn of events and the ambush fails. Unfortunately, Hanlon and Drake are on top of things as well and two of their men grab the money bag right from under the sheriff's nose. Leading the posse once again, Cherokee manages to lose the fleeing outlaws in the wilderness, but Little Beaver (Tommy Cook) and Red pick up a trail that leads to an abandoned mine. Once there, Red is forced into the mineshaft by nasty One-Eye Chapin (Bob Kortman) and is soon faced with a runaway coal tram. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, Rovi
