Very creative, go go go adventure, stylish

My kids & husband really appreciated it. It was a little nutty for me, but I am too practical - if you suspend reality, you will enjoy it. It is very safe for kids (no blood, but lots of swashbuckling).

What took them sooo long??!! GO-IT'S GREAT IN 3D/IMAX

Having been a Tintin fan since the late 1960's, I wasn't sure what to expect with "The Adventures of Tintin". But Steven Speilberg has done it again!

For those who are familiar with Herge's series will know that the movie contains a combined story line from the "The Crab with the Golden Claw" & "The Secret of the Unicorn" with the indefatigable Castafiore thrown in, who, by the way was a wonderful addition. When the script wavered from the books, instead of being daft, silly, or superfluous, value & emphasis is added to the scene.

The graphics is amazing. For example, in the close up shots, one could see the skin's pores and soft hairs that everyone has on their face; the veins in the characters arms and with the clothes that the characters wore, one could almost feel the material!

Early in the movie, Tintin was in the market getting a portrait drawn, which when displayed, the caricature or cartoon is as he appears in the Herge books to how he is in the movie was striking!

    Good film for the kids

Had some exciting scenes and a clever dog, but this movie generally fell flat for me. The animation varies from Polar Express creepy to very realistic, which in itself was distracting. The John Williams music was Indiana Jones-lite, and the silly Interpol cops voiced by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were just embarrassing. Maybe I expected too much. but it felt suitable only for the very young.

    TInTin

I don't know how a lot of my friend have not even hear of TINTIN before. I used to watch the show all the time when I was younger. (21) I thought Steven Spielberg did a good job creating the characters on the big screen. If you are a TINTIN fan from back on the cartoons then you will love this movie. It was good for all ages and keeps you interested from beginning to the end. So go ahead! Great film.

    The Adventures of Tintin

    by erok741

This movie was 'Tintastic'! Great for children and adults alike the animation was detailed and realistic. The story was smart but not too complicated as Tintin, ageless intrepid European journalist takes us on a journey and adventure to find the secret of the ancient sailing vessel 'The Unicorn' and solve its mystery! The action is well-paced and held the interest of my 8 and 11 year old boys!
    Great work Spielberg and Nickelodeon!

    Great effects for a cartoon

Characters looked real but movie was slow to get started and just an Indiana Jones kid in cartoon form only not as exciting. Great kid flick, so-so for adult.

This is not a children's movie.

    by majkaos

If you?re familiar with the Herge's character, this is not it. A lot of traveling but little fun or adventure. The small children and families in the audience left scratching their heads. Absolutely no laughs or excitement from the audience. The few older kids and young adults were like "eh...whatever." Although the plot was better than Sherlock Holmes, the animation was freakishly real. Plus Tintin's head looked too large for his body; almost ballooonish. Also got tired of the Captain's overt alcoholism. Yes, got it, Herge means to make the Captain trowdy. But in the context of Spielberg's creation, he made the alcohol to Captain as spinach is to Popeye. So the Captain is only bold and daring, and can remember things when he's drinking; nice message. It was just weird. As usual John Williams did great with the music. Just as in Sherlock Holmes 2.5 stars out of 5, and thumbs down. Wait for it on video.

Taking Movies to A Whole New Form: Virtual Actors are Here and Great!

Most of these fall apart like Polar Express because the filmmakers are so hung up on the technology that the film falls flat. Not so with master adventure storyteller Stephen Spielberg.

This film is one of the best action movies around. If you like things like MI and Pirates of the Caribbean & Sherlock Holmes, then you'll find this recreation of the Tin Tin comics right up your alley.

John Williams does the score. The film is fashioned in much the same way as a Raiders film, rich with rapid cuts and fast-paced, well executed action. My kids are fans of the comic novellas. Tin Tin is familiar to European audiences, and the few readers of the comics translated to English here. They say that Spielberg did justice to the character.

In the early 1990s people around Silicon Valley spoke of the day of the Virtual actor...
    It's here!

    Extremely Fun Adventure

The fashion of speech and humour in Tintin made me feel as if I was transported into the mid-20th century! I applaud the script and it's writers. A complete and terrifically fun adventure left me in such an uplifted mood, I just might see it again sometime. The Adventures of Tintin is great fun for all ages. There were several young children sitting in the theatre laughing along with everyone else whenever Haddock got his hands on a bottle of whiskey. Tintin is a must for the holidays!

Thrill A Minute Excitement, Totally Amazing Animation.

A new Film Series is born. This one sets the stage for what certainly will be a LONG run for Tin Tin. What's even better is this film is old school meets new school movie-making magic, with all the contemporary masters at its helm. End-to-end, it just doesn't get any better than this. Kids, adults, even grandparents will enjoy Tin Tin. There's virtually something for everyone in this film AND nobody will get bored for a moment. If you're a strict PC type, you might not like innocent pirate humor, allusions to rum and the brief glimpse here and there of smoke but just remember while you're trying to erase the truth of the past, you're sure to repeat its mistakes as a consequence. From my perspective, these brief and simple colorings are not topical to the plot, so one would just have to be looking for something to complain about to take exception. Worth every cent of its ticket price, you may even want to see it twice. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

    OK to see in 2D!

Had to save a few bucks after all the Christmas spending, so we opted to see this in 2D. I know, I know, it's MEANT to be seen in 3D. But, it was so beautifully animated and rich with details that it held up perfectly as a 2D experience.

I will see it again (maybe even in 3D!)

    fantastic!

The only reason I did not choose "Must Go" is because I understand that people who have never experienced the wonderful Tintin books might just think this is another kids movie. But those of us who grew up loving Tintin stories, this movie will be like having a childhood toy suddenly come to life. The characters are gorgeously animated, right down to faint laugh lines on Tintin's face and a little dirt under Captain Haddock's fingernails! The accents are just right, too. They did, of course, change things - squashing several stories together and adding some action that never happened - but nothing out of character for the stories. For the most part, everything in the movie was utterly believable and delightfully true to Herge's wonderful characters.

I will be buying the movie immediately when it comes out on DVD, and am looking forward to the (clearly hinted at) sequel!

Two teen video hounds rate this high

    by tikk

Good animation with interesting story that drew us in and kept us interested. Liked this better than Pirates of the Caribbean. Tintin is a young adult investigative reporter whose travels to find the truth lead to intrigue and danger. His sidekick is a Westie terrier. Pre-schoolers would be bored but otherwise the movie is good for all ages.

Good movie, a little long- maybe more of a 'boy' movie

My son loves TinTin, has read every book I think. My husband loved them as a boy. The graphics are really good in this movie- though the large heads on some characters are 'off putting' to me. The movie seemed very true to the books, really captured the characters and the story very well. This old timey boy adventurer detective story is not really my favorite genre. But, lets face it- all 4 of us got a little bored at times. My 6 yr. old daughter fell asleep. Even though the plot moves through lots of action- it still is not all that interesting at times. Needed to be a shorter movie, with a bit more whit and whimsy to it. The dialogue is just not inspiring. TinTin is a charming character and snowy is a great friend for him- the other characters leave me kinda flat. We asked my son (7yr) how he like the movie afterwards. He said 'It was good".

yonan32 Oh hey, Anthony Bourdain was a huge Tintin fan when he was little. Wonder if it inspired him to travel. Other than money, of course.
