This movie works best as a 'getting into an Ivy League' satire. The scenes on the burned-out kids with their fat resumes, the over zealous parents and the secret, elitist admission meetings are all called out at good effect. I like Tina Fey who sort of reprises her TV persona, but smarter, and, as always, Paul Rudd is likable and sincere. They have good on screen chemistry--better than most of their pairings in other movies. The supporting cast, including Lilly Tomlin, is good. The adoptive mother subplot is a distraction and unnecessary; it would have been sufficient for Fey's character to just become more human in relation to the absurd admissions process. Definitely a movie worth 'matinee' prices!

We enjoyed this show. It was a frothy, sweet romance which especially resonated because we've recently been through the admissions process with both our children. For anyone who's been anywhere near this process, this is a fun send-up. The chemistry between the two leads was charming.

I'm a big Tina Fey fan, 30 Rock was brilliant. if your a Tina Fey fan then you might like this movie, otherwise its not very good. it had some funny parts (most of the parts with Tina in it). If you just want to see Tina's comedic brilliance then just watch reruns of 30 Rock on netflix.

Paul Rudd, Tina Fey, and Lily Tomlin make this movie. The plot is a little simplistic but is brought to life in a very believable and poignant way by the terrific abilities of the cast. It would have been easy to allow a mid-movie slump by the slightly weak plot line but this never happened as each transition was made smoothly and effectively. Some very good comedic moments sprinkled throughout helped as well.
We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and give it a strong thumbs up.
