Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

This movie is great. It is all I expected and more. The story was well written, the characters were interestng, the acting was good, the photography and tone...well done AND the action and special effects were awesome. Additionally the setting gave you a sense of what the time period was truly like. The civil war battle scenes brought that war into life instead of being just an historical event. Watching Lincoln deliver his famous address at Gettysburg after watching 1000's become injured or die gave it new meaning. I joined with the characters emotionally at that moment. A great work of historical fiction that melded fact and fiction together. I'll never view Abraham Lincoln the same way again. He's now an axe wielding superhero to me.

I had first heard about this movie on the radio. The announcer said that he didn't want to like this movie because of the title, but it was a good movie. I totally agree with him. The title makes it sound like a spoof, a low budget blue movie. But it's not. It is a great movie with great acting and wonderful special affects. The big surprise was how well it meshes with real history. It is a "must see".

When the trailer first came out, everyone kind of shrugged... and laughed it off as a lark. Something thst you would akin it to the Resident Evil movies. Yet, there is something different about the historically inacurate flick that totally immerses you and eventually has you rooting on Honest Abe and his friends. They did touch upon Slavery, the Emancipation Proclamation, The Civil War, The Gettysburgh Address and finally his death... but those were just references that made you rmemeber that you were watching a fictitous tale about a beloved President. There were other historical figures in the movie and if anything... it forced my 10 year old niece to have a discussion about the real Abraham Lincoln and she was fascinated. Anywho, the special effects were great, the story, the acting was great and you know what... you should definitely see this movie.

Forget history, suspend disbelief all ye who go to see this movie. Lots of fun. CGI rough in spots. Moves that Bruce Lee would envy. Ignore the plot holes and massive history revisions. Vampires are evil and do not sparkle in this film. Actors make Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd sympathetic characters, people you would like to meet and get to know. I had lots of fun watching this movie, don't think you were supposed to laugh where I did. Gore, no sex, no nudity, no language, violence. Not for under 12 years, really.

It really was interesting how they took President Lincoln's life events and twisted them to be vampire related. There were a few moments when there wasn't action, because they were relaying historical events. But the monsters made me jump, Mary Todd was cooler than I have ever read about! It was fun and exciting a good bit, just don't expect the constant roller coster ride of a movie like, say "Safehouse" and you will enjoy it. Or at least I did.
