A Double Entendre

I must admit my curiosity regarding this movie was piqued when I first saw the preview....actually my exact words were..."really Hollywood is definitely running out of ideas!". I did my patriotic duty and decided to see this movie on independence day which was a congruent theme throughout the movie. To add to the visual pleasure I even saw it in 3D which in itself took it to another cheesier level. As a history buff and vampire Stan (stalker +fan), I was presently surprised and really enjoyed this movie. It had suspense, drama, romance, gore and some folly that only a true movie buff could appreciate. Hey maybe in a hundred years Hollywood will do the same for Barrack Obama...just a thought :)

Fun but not up to the book

The movie was fun and campy. Great action and effects. A 3D that worked. But it was barely based on the book, which worked because of the very clever way it tied to historical events. The basis of Lincoln believing in the bloodsuckers is nuanced and logical in the book - building from events relating to his grnadfather, other relatives, and the backwards 19th-century Indiana world he lived in. And Mary was still neurotic and nuts in the book - not a Blackwidow-wanna-be? But the movie was fun!

Don't Judge By The Concept

Most people will waste no time in scorning this film due to how outrageous the concept is. However, the creators have done an excellent job bringing this story to the big screen. Mixing the artistic splendor of '300' into this fictional, yet historical account makes for what I believe is a masterpiece and one of the best films of the year. Although the plot was a little blotchy in the beginning, all the pieces eventually come together for a rather compelling story that kept the audience at the edge of their seat in anticipation of what the conclusion to the battle between good and evil, humans and vampires, the North and the South, will be. A perfect play on the juxtaposition between the horrors of slavery by evil white men and the horrors of death by evil vampires.

Save your money

When you mix history and vampire lore you really have the potential to make a great movie. Save your money and just see the 2D version since there really weren't any eye popping special affects. The movie was okay just nothing really to rave about. If you're not dieing to see it, then just wait for it to come out on DVD/cable.

Serious play on a historical figure doing unnatural things

Not much to say, if you like vampire movies and ones about maturing into the hero, this is good. A similar character progression like in Wanted with the film style and action of 300. Only two sexual reference scenes and the R rating is from the blood, dismemberment, and mature themes. My teenager enjoyed it.
