Fandango’s Mobile & Tablet Apps Win Three Honors

(Los Angeles, CA – May 9, 2011) –The global Web community has voted for Fandango’s mobile apps as “The Best Mobile Entertainment Apps of the Year,” as part of the People’s Voice Awards polling in the 15th Annual Webby Awards.

This year, over 1.25 million votes were cast by people around the world for their favorite sites, videos, ads, and mobile sites and apps in The Webby People’s Voice Awards.

Fandango’s highly-acclaimed iPad app also won both the People’s Voice Award and jury-selected Webby Award for “The Best Tablet Shopping App of the Year.”

Fandango, the nation’s leading moviegoer destination and top mobile movie ticketing provider, has seen more than 15 million downloads of its popular apps for the iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry, Palm, Windows Phone 7 and many other platforms.

Fandango will be honored at the star-studded, live online broadcast of The Webby Awards from New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Monday, June 13, 2011. The full list of winners can be found at www.webbyawards.com.

Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including websites, interactive advertising & media, online film & video, and mobile & apps. The Webby Awards is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 750-person judging academy whose members include Martha Stewart, Darren Aronofsky, R/GA's Chief Bob Greenberg, David Bowie, Arianna Huffington and Twitter's Biz Stone.

“The Webby Awards honors the very best of the Internet and mobile space,” says David-Michel Davies, Executive Director of the Webby Awards. “Fandango’s achievement is a testament to the skill, ingenuity and vision of the creators of its apps.”

“It’s a great honor to win a Webby from our peers,” says Jessica Yi, Chief Product Officer for Fandango, “but we’re particularly pleased to win two People’s Voice Awards for Fandango apps, as our team worked hard to design and build the right end-to-end consumer experience for the avid moviegoer. Our goal was to make it easy to discover upcoming movies with trailers, reviews, and showtimes, while also ensuring a great experience at the theater with advance ticket purchase and easy redemption.”

The 15th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 US states. Founded in 1996, The Webby Awards are known worldwide for its famous 5-word speech limit. Past Webby Award winners – and their speeches - include Al Gore (“Please don’t recount this vote”), Beastie Boys (“Can anyone fix my computer?”), and Stephen Colbert (“Me. Me. Me. Me. Me.”).
