“Twilight” Overtakes ‘Harry Potter’ in #3 Spot on Fandango’s Top Advance Ticket-Sellers List
(Los Angeles - November 20, 2008) Tonight's the night for millions of moviegoers across the country, as "Twilight" dawns at theaters at 12:01 a.m. Hundreds of tonight's midnight showtimes are already sold out, from Bellingham to Boise to Boston. Theater owners are adding additional showtimes -- some as late as 2:45 a.m. on Friday morning -- to meet the demand for tickets, available at http://www.fandango.com/twilighttickets.
Based on the best-selling novel, "Twilight" has now eclipsed both "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" on Fandango's list of Top Ten Advance Ticket-Sellers, taking over the #3 spot. The #1 and #2 spots continue to be held by "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and "The Dark Knight", respectively.
"Twilight" currently represents more than 94% of all weekly ticket sales on Fandango. "It's our fastest ticket-seller since 'The Dark Knight'", says Rick Butler, chief operating officer of Fandango. "The impressive advance ticket sales are clearly the result of the growing Internet buzz from the novel's online fans. There are so many moviegoers staying up late to see the movie at midnight that 'Twilight' might single-handedly boost coffee sales on Friday morning."
Here are a few statistics from our ongoing survey of more than 5,000 "Twilight" moviegoers on Fandango.com:
•83% say they plan to see "Twilight" more than once;
•56% are planning to see the movie with a group of friends;
•42% of respondents are 25 or older; 58% are younger than 25;
•25% of respondents claim they will see "Twilight" with their moms or daughters;
