I found this to be a really sweet and charming story about a boy who feels abandoned and neglected
and acts out. The wild things seem to be allegoric for his internal turmoil and in that way they really work well. It's not a story with great depth, but I found it very enjoyable and well paced.
but made for a woman. Er, well men and women really. I bet a lot of people avoid this movie
because they think "Oh that's that Man Show guy." Well I didn't like the man show either, though I did like Adam on Love Line so I figured I'd have a little date night with my wife.
We really liked it. More importantly, it's a very sweet movie. No "head injury" humor here, just cute dialog. I'd really recommend this as a date movie because, although it seems like it might be a "Rocky" style boxing movie, boxing is really a third wheel in this movie. First of all it's about a 40 year old guy who never got it together and now realizes it's time to make a move (I relate) and second it's about a new romance. Then comes boxing... and maybe a side story about a man's love for a Nicaraguan immigrant who talks as if he's got a mouth full of lug bolts.
The only downside was the audio wasn't recorded all that well. Most likely because it's a very low budget movie.
So, I was really worried that this movie was going to suck, as other movies that capitalized on my
childhood TV life have. Most notably, the crapfest that was Lost In Space. Joey from friends? Really? Did it need that and the accompanying drivel? Yikes.
How does one take a show that was a super low budget show for 7 year olds and make it into a big budget film? Very easy to screw up. I was VERY pleasantly surprised! It totally managed to keep the flavor of the show, but amp it up times 1000 and show it to you the way you saw it in your mind when you were 8. The movie is super cartoony (think kung fu anime for cars) yet somehow the Wachowski brothers make it work. Even though it also broke my "cartoon action movies shouldn't go over 90 minutes" rule, there was only one point when I felt it slowed a little but then it picked right back up. Anyway, it's not a movie that's going to change the way you feel about life, but it sure will make you drive faster.
