I was very disappointed with this movie. It repeatedly leap-frogged over dozens of chapters of Victor Hugo's great masterpiece, making the story choppy and disjointed at best. Or completely irrelevant at worst. Characters were simply invented and cast as major bit players who had no part in the novel. And the idea that singing every line of the script would be something wonderful was crazy. It only furthered the confusion thrust upon the audience by making every line, in effect, a soliloquy. To one who knew the story, this movie was a terrible representation of it. To one who didn't, this movie did little to reveal it. It's one thing to creat a script for a movie. It's another to take a great work of art and rewrite it. Movie producers have the right to do the former. But to do the latter while retaining the original title is a disgrace not only to the original work, but to the art itself. ...(read more)
