We were eager to see MEMPHIS, since we won't be seeing it on our upcoming trip to NYC. But right
off the bat, we were put off by the intermission feature that was shown before the movie started, killing the mood. We didn't know anything about the actors, since we hadn't seen the show, so that segment was wasted on us. And, like I said, a definite mood-killer. Why don't they air it at intermission, or even AFTER the show, for those who choose to stay?
We liked MEMPHIS when it acted like an old-time book musical with plot. But the man who played Calhoun was so irritating it made all four of us crazy. What was that George W. Bush impression all about? Ugh. If we wanted to watch GWBush act like a fool, we'd check out the myto Youtube for free, not for $20.
And it was hardly believeable that a high-school dropout couldn't read. How ridiculous.
But we were very glad to be able to see a Broadway show on screen and hope this happens again with other, better, Broadway musicals.
