I have watched the original "Spirit of the Marathon" several times, always enjoying it. I was
concerned that a sequel would be difficult to pull off, as it would either need to completely rework the formula or it would seem repetitive. The result seemed like a mixed bag. The formula wasn't quite the same as the first movie. It seemed more random and unstructured. It used many of the same former elite marathoners, which I thought was a mistake. They just seemed older without adding anything to what they contributed to the first movie. I thought the one notable good exception was Haile Gebrselassie, who was quite interesting. I loved the scenery around Rome, and the movie has made me think about running the Rome Marathon. But the downside is that most of the featured athletes were non-English speakers. I spent most of the movie reading sub-titles, when I wanted to enjoy the scenery on the big screen. All in all, a slight disappointment. Only for obsessive runners to enjoy!
