It was very clear from posters to trailers what the filmmakers were going for with this film,
paying a certain homage to the sex, fast cars, violence mentality of 1960s drive-in films. Problem is, with plenty going for it, they forgot the Main Ingredient: CAMPINESS! Not to say this film had none of that, it had some... but it NEVER committed to a particular style of originality, or camp. It seemed stuck in Neutral between a bad drama and weak camp. Thank G-d for the few tricks and very hot chicks!! Nic Cage's uncommitted, robotic portrayal was an absolute complete yawn! And I really like Cage. If a film ever called or needed a unique Cage portrayal, THIS one really did!! There's a definite market for this type of fare. "Pirhana" suffered from the same lack of camp commitment recently. Had allll the right ingredients, except THE most important one. And without a good TONE, who's gonna watch and listen? Judging by the near empty seats in my theater, the audience hath spoken! Fix this!!!
