Eastwood's captured the feel of the era and has chosen a wrenching human drama that's inherently
interesting. The story telling is heavy handed though, with the villains and heroes (heroine) both being too one-dimensional; they're all pretty predictable. The cast is generally very good with Malkovich nailing his role and (in particular) the children in the cast. However, Angelina Jolie doesn't do it for me; she's glamorously attractive but unlike her brilliant red lips (which overshadow all other women on the screen) her performance is mono-chromatic. The story itself is undeniably captivating (prepare your heart to be torn up by the brutality and child-suffering). As a movie however, it falls a bit flat. I say 'Rent It'.
