A masterpiece. Potent, persuasive and hypnotic, The Dark Knight Rises is a disturbing experience we live through as much as a film we watch. Rises is more emotion than menace, and is a dazzling conclusion to Nolan's Batman trilogy. From special effects to characterization, it is filmaking at its best. Bruce/Batman is a broken soul, Bane is spot-on, Catwoman was Catwoman- A diva of her craft and ally for the Bat. Even the subtle (and smartly done) introduction of the Robin character was perfect. But that is not what is so brilliant about this movie. Each film can stand on it's own merit, but as a cohesive whole, Nolan's trilogy has gone far beyond what a superhero is thought of. Entirely enveloping, and at times unnerving in a relevant way one would never have imagined, Nolan's trilogy has created an epic meditation on mortal loss and heroic frailty.
