The context of the movie allows a child's parent, or other guardian, the opportunity to explain
global warming and mitigation measures at a level comprehenndable by each individual child, pursuant to age level and interest. My little guy, 5-years-old, had many questions I was able to speak to at his level. One day after seeing the movie, he opened a conversation with me to ask further questions, because apparently he had been thinking about it.
For this reason, i give the movie a big thumbs up.
As a G-rated movie for the younger set, this movie (documentary) was perfect. It was short enough to
keep the attention of the younger set and the content and concepts were aimed toward children. Although, many adults are like children, so seeing the documentary could behoove them as well.
The concept is to socially educate us city slickers that preserving all species on the earth is important. For the children, there was repetition of how the baby elephants and the baby orangutans were just like human children in that they require constant care and love to grow up to be successful. All of the animal babies were orphaned due to human intervention (the bad guys). Through this type of media viewing, the younger set will presumably grow up with this concept being almost innate.
We need many more documentaries such as this for our children to watch in lieu of watching something without meaning.
Another great Disney family movie! I took my 4.5 year-old grandson and he came away saying, "It was
awesome, Grandma!" It was his first 3-D movie experience. Both the 3-D aspect of the movie and the lesson it taught provided a basis for an afternoon of discussion of each.
I do recommend this movie to both young and older children.
