I would be the first one to express disappointment in a mediocre cinematic remake of this piece of theatrical brilliance, but I can't. It was certainly not perfect, but I cannot say how happy I am with how it turned out. The cast, all in all, RULES (some pick up what others leave to be desired), the emotional charge it carries is unreal (don't go until you're ready to come out emotionally drained to the max), it looks beautiful and the orchestrations are phenomenal. Some may deem it too dark, too dramatic, too sad, blah blah blah, but that's Les Mis for you - poignant, beautiful, moving and an all-around tear-jerker. I only say "Go" because I fear the harsh criticisms of the Twi-hards who think the books are the be-all, end-all and that the movies stink if they don't follow the books to perfection. With that being said, this movie does a great job of honoring the story line and really was INCREDIBLE. For the first time in the Twilight series, I was legitimately creeped out, laughed my guts out and was on the edge of my seat all throughout the movie. It was so intense and it seems the the acting really does get better and better with each movie. It definitely did not disappoint and I might even find myself seeing it again. Be warned though: it is a LOT bloodier and more graphic than the previous movies, so make sure you go in with a strong stomach. ...(read more)
