We have seen many productions of the Nutcracker Ballet and were looking forward to seeing the New
York City Ballet version. We were very disappointed in it and in the theatre presentation. For one thing, the music should have been played in the Dolby sound system that the theatre has available. The orchestral music sounded worse than movie soundtracks-dull and without much life. Secondly, Kelly Ripa, or whoever she is, is a silly bore and all the interviews she had were insipid. Skip Kelly entirely. We didn't pay to see or hear her. Thirdly, the production itself was ho-hum. The dancers were ok, but nothing special. The absence of the Russion dancers, replaced by a gymnastic hoola hoop dancer, was a great disappointment. Couldn't they find any Russian dancers in New York? Finally, Mother Ginger was played hammily by a gay guy who was more concerned about his make-up than giving any warmth to the character. And why use such old children for her children? I miss the tots.
