I guess it's true when they say you are best served by going into something with lowered
expectations. All the reviews I'd read about "Hancock" were mediocre at best, but I think they sold it short. The effects were awesome, Will Smith was lovable even as a jerk and although the plot was pretty bare-bones, it held up well enough to support what's best described as a popcorn flick. Don't go if you're expecting something deep and meaningful, but if you're just looking for a way to pump a couple hours of fun into your summer evening--and there ain't a damn thing wrong with that!--then this is the movie for you.
If you have some odd, burning desire to see Jason Segel nude, then this is the movie for you. If,
however, you want to see a movie that is actually funny for more than 10 seconds at a time, I'd suggest giving this one a wide berth. Paul Rudd and Bill Hader are the two bright spots in an otherwise stunningly dull and unoriginal "comedy," but even they're not enough to save it. So watch the trailers and you'll get just about everything that's worth taking in without blowing your ten bucks.
