Seeing plays on a movie screen is great fun - especially when the plays are done by Britain's
National Theatre - where the acting is always sublime. The movie means every seat is 4th row center, sometimes even better, as the camera swoops in for closeups that we'd never get even from the house seats. It is harder, though, than in an actual movie, to get lost in the story. There is always the feeling that the 4th wall is there. And so a certain distance from what's happening on the stage -- oops, the screen. The only real drawback, though, is plays are so much quieter than films. No background music; no ambient noise. In other words: chomp on popcorn at your peril.
