This was the first simulcast of a NYC Met Opera that I have seen. I was keeping my expectations
low on the sound quality. I needn't have - a great performance came through as a great performance. There are actaully some advantages to seeing the simulcast vs the live performance - there were interviews with all the lead performers, the conductor, the costume designer, etc. No need for opera glasses. Closeups were judiciously used - there was some extremely fine acting in this opera, most notably by the soprano signing the title character. The encore performance will be November 2. If you have the opportunity, go! I have bought tickets to 4 other Met simulcasts. Much less expensive than a trip to NYC plus tickets to the Met and you really do feel like you are there.
