The Tempest was magnificent. This new production was at first not easy to like. There are few
melodies and no easy refrains. However, it draws you in with outstanding performances, haunting music and a great story. I loved it. Seeing it on the screen instead of live had advantages including backstage interviews and views of scenery changes. It was also nice to casually have a little snack and drink a bottle of water at your seat. I'm looking forward to the rest of the Met Opera series.
Not only was the concert itself spectacular, but also the first hour of interviews, rehearsal and
backstage visits, and background information was deeply contextulaizing and fascinating. I loved it. I thought the sound was good, but next time I'll research the actual theater to ensure I've selected the best sound system available in my area.
