I've had a hard time relating to a lot of the "LDS Community" movies. Most have been a bit too
campy or light on the serious content, though some of the humor has been good. As a result, I have mostly avoided the theatrical releases of these movies, because I've felt like I've been wasting my money. The previews of this one seemed better than most, but still a bit less than impressive, but once we decided to see it, I felt hopeful that it would deliver a good experience.
I wasn't disappointed. While other missionary themed movies in the genre have seemed to focus on much of the humor and negative, this one balanced the two quite well. Everything felt quite genuine, as opposed to trying too hard to make you feel the moment. The girls in the show were real and I felt for them as they struggled with the opposition, and thus rejoiced in their success as well. Overall, a great experience for someone interested in seeing what a missionary experience is really like.
