the story didn't even seem like a MIB story.
Gremlins, Goonies, Stand by Me, and now, 25 years later, Super 8.
A small town, a group of young
pre-teen boys (one with glasses, one with a weight problem, and one who like to build things) and one tomboyish girl, a grand adventure, oh - and some kind of weird creature.
The kids cuss way too much, and way too well for their age - they have no problems stealing, breaking & entering, driving with no license (they are too young to have one anyway), lying to their parents, and sneaking out at night. They also never get caught or have any consequences for doing so. But that's the way these movies work.
There's even some power puking, Stand-by-me style, just not that extreme.
Some barely noticeable call-backs to other movies (a magazine entitled "Star Wars" that had nothing to do with the movies, for example) reminded me of the hidden messages in Gremlins ("This Boy's Life" was the working title for "E.T." and "Watch the Skies" was the working title for "Close Encounters").
Then you'll like this one. It's not for everyone. The story lacks, and there are many - if not
plot holes - at least unanswered questions. But the action is good, and the 3D is awesome.
So if you like Resident Evil, crazy action scenes, zombies, and/or 3D, - you should go. Otherwise, skip it.
