Leaving the theatre with my friends and listening to others chatter around me there were clearly two groups of people with very separate opinions on the film: those that expected to see some sort of magical rebirth of the Alien franchise and were sorely disappointed, and people like me who had low expectations but found great entertainment value in a film that was actually enjoyable for what it was. I give Ridley Scott a lot of credit for injecting just about every Sci-Fi movie cliche known to man into the film. There is a "Luke I am your father" moment, random yet amusing sex jokes forcibly injected in the dialogue, and a HAL-like android that creates confusion around what happens next (even though everything occurs rather predictably). The film is ripe for parody, and I look forward to seeing what David Zucker or the Wayans Brothers end up making out of it (I think Scary Movie 5 is due out in 2013).
