I've been waiting so long for this movie and it didn't disappoint. We saw it in 3D which was good. I'm not fond of 3D and I'll probably opt for non-3D on the next 2 installments. I think the movie would have been just as good without 3D. It made the action scenes seem confusing. It's been quite a few years since I reread the book, and I'm resisting the temptation to read it now because I'd rather not be too critical and point out every deviation from it. It's one of my all time favorites and I've read it several times. The movie doesn't quite capture the charm of the book, but follows the storyline fairly faithfully. Jackson seems to be trying a little too hard to include some of the characters from the LOTR triology who aren't necessary to the Hobbit storyline. I loved the beautiful scenery and way the whole middle earth was portrayed. I liked the actors, glad to see Ian McKellan back!
