I love opera, which is why I feel so strongly about this musical. It was terrible!!!!! I walked out
after the 1st act. The singing repetition as each character was introduced was mind numbing. There is just nothing satisfying about this opera. Perhaps it is because the plot sounds like something from a first graders imagination. There was really no beauty in the pieces that were sung. The voices were wonderful, but meant for something better than this. I give it a negative 1 star.
If I had to pick the best Opera that I have seen in the past few years,it would be Thais. Rene
Fleming was beyond marvelous as was the whole cast. If there is such a thing as leaving an opera huming the score, that was me.
Don't miss Thais. It probably won't be shown for another 10 years, for some reason. The story of a monk who converts a woman of ill repute and then goes down as she elevates is not new. But the music is beyond wonderful. The theme --meditation,played on the violin by the concertmaster will thrill your ears.
Did I mention how much I liked Thais?
This was a wonderful experience . The movie made you fell like you were sitting onstage at the Met.
The sound and picture quality was better then being there in person. The performance was beyound wonderful. This is the way to see opera.
The Metropolitan Opera: Thaïs
Manon Lescaut I
The Metropolitan Opera: Hansel...
