As I had never seen a performance of Phantom, this movie was an excellent way for me to become
acquainted with this show. The actors and the acting were so moving, especially Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom. He almost brought me to tears several times with his poignant portrayal of the lonely, damaged Phantom. One distracting element was being able to see how the Phantom's makeup and wig were applied, whenever they did a closeup of the back of his head, which happened several times. Small thing, but sort of kills the illusion. Also, I did not like the scene where the Phantom appears wearing the death shroud and his face is covered requiring him to sing through the hood. I didn't like this costume although such a costume might have been necessary to the scene. The costumes in general though were beautiful and striking as was the singing by everyone. The theater that I attended did not show the last 30 min. of the encore after the main show. Not a happy thing for us attending.
