For people considering seeing this film, one thing they need to keep in mind is the fact that this is NOT The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit is a more lighthearted story compared to LOTR, and thus doesn't carry as much of the more "heavy" material that makes the first film trilogy hard for many to watch. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a joy to watch (which explains why I saw it twice). Everything is included, from characters' back stories to even a short flashback (for the viewer) to Bilbo and Frodo's comfy hobbit hole, taking many people back to those old memories of the Lord of the Rings films while also helping the new viewers understand why this new film would even be wanted. Peter Jackson evidently did not work on this film with the purpose of only drawing in the old fans; the story is made to be as transparent as possible, regardless of whether one is familiar with the books.
