A great performance by all. A must-see for Wagner fans. Great singing by all, including
new-on-the-scene heldentenor Jay Hunter Morris. He is going to become even better the more Wagner he sings. A great cast; such a blessing to be able to see these outstanding Met operas without the expense of going to NYC. Go see this if you love Wagner!
If you love Wagner, go see this. Thrilling to see the entire opera at a nearby cinema if you cannot
get up to NYC. Siegmond's singing & acting- superb. Seiglinde & Wotan- fine voices but the close-ups of faces which cinema gives you accentuated these singers' rather stiff, limited acting. Great voices, and some really good costumes & scenery. Good Brunnhilde, but we actually preferred the recent VA Opera's Brunnhilde & Wotan as they were excellent actors as well as singers: also preferred their last act scenery. The drama of the last act in this movie version could have been more convincingly portayed. There were 3 long intermissions: singer interviews backstage (good), orchestra musicians discussing/playing the score liet-motifs (excellent), but also much "filler" of backstage crew work which really dragged, & being a movie, could have been deleted to not destroy Wagner's mood & also shorten it to 5 hrs.
Kudos to the Met for filming this; I hope they keep making more opera movies!!
