Yes, I am damning with faint praise. The computer animation was TV quality - stunning if it were
made 10 to 15 years ago (and I mean that - CGI stuff isn't easy, but we expect more now that we've seen what can be done). It could be forgiven with a good storyline, but that was off, too. The pacing was strange, with much more attention given to a random dance sequence than to the climactic volcano scene. The commander chimp's (Warburton) first instinct on meeting the aliens was to threaten them with dissection, which didn't fit anything.
It had a handful of really great one liners that made me laugh out loud, but it wasn't enough to make me forgive the "Kilowatt" character, a cross between Doogal, ET, and Jar-Jar. Space Chimps did fulfill it's primary purpose of entertaining my 5-year-old for an hour and twenty minutes, but a slinky would have been just as good, and I could have gotten 50 of them for the price of three tickets.
