I first heard this album in the Fall of 1973 - and I was hooked from the moment that I head "Can
You See the Real Me?". As trite as it sounds, many of the songs "spoke to me" - whether the words or just the music, there was a real connection. It was very interesting to hear Townsend's in depth comments about the character Jimmy and those times in the early 60s. It was good hear Townsend's insights regarding each song. I guess I am not as 'deep' as some of the commentators in the film. As the old saying goes: I may not know art but I know what I like" ... and like this film, I did. I would buy the DVD to watch it again at home and listen to the albu, again, to further appreciate it having the additional insight.
