I give director Majewski the upmost credit in his ability to take us into the daily lives of the hundreds of figures in Bruegels THE PROCESSION TO CALVARY. It is dreamlike in feel and the lack of dialogue is the same studying the painting on the wall in a museum. Art buffs will like that. However, there is no feeling or tension or flaming emotion. Perhaps that is intentional, but it makes for tedious motion picture enjoyment; there is certainly many opportunities. In contrast, GIRL WITH THE PEARL EARRING had heart and emotion before it expanded to the framed print shot. You could see what was behind her young face. Rent this one if art films are your pursuit. No need to pay at the window. ...(read more)

He is super at fueling suspense by giving the audience the ending in the first 2 minutes. We then march to the doom of coliding worlds at a pace that is forced onto us. Like an orbit we can't stop and knowing the ending. Clever. It was an irritating march though. They used a hand camera to film the whole movie. Constant camera shake that is obviously intentional and so annoying. They also struggled with the focus to really make this film a challenge to enjoy and take in. This tactic was way overused. It should have been used sparingly to help with Kirsten's moods. And we are forced to sit through a bizarre wedding with the worst people. It isn't worth the admission price. Rent it if you dare. ...(read more)

Powerful scripting and performances. Shannon's lead character slowly simmers to a boil and tears at your heart. The direction keeps you guessing about what you thought you were certain about. All the elements are there and work.........until the end! The last 30 seconds cheapened the whole effort! 30 seconds from a perfect film and an award winning performance. Rent it. ...(read more)

You must see this in the theaters. The tension, the schemes, the deals gone bad, and even the mysterious silence flooded my senses and kept me glued to teh screen. Ryan Gosling is confident and sharp. His love interest, played by Carey Mulligan from AN EDUCATION, chamred her way to him and myself in 10 words or less! Her eyes and smile are awesome. No flaws. This is a fantastic and disturbing action thriller with the best marraige of music to film that I have seen since JUNO and O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU. February's award season will keep this cast busy with interviews! Worth full price and I guarantee you a lengthy water cooler commentary for many days. ...(read more)

My only choices this week are SOCIAL NETWORK at Kiln Creek or HARRY POTTER before it leaves.
127 HOURS, BLACK SWAN, COMPANY MEN, TRUE GRIT are on the radar.
POTTER this Saturday. FAIR GAME and NEXT 3 DAYS on Sunday. TANGLED and BURLESQUE next week and the Naro will have 127 HOURS then, too.
I have HEREAFTER and CONVICTION on my list for this weekend. I ordered HARRY POTTER tix for 11/20 in regular format. I will probably see Denezel's train movie next weekend.
