I just saw The Good Guy and surprised that I had never heard of this Scott Porter . . . he definitely has “IT” - really sparked and fueled this movie. The other reviewers are right – he does remind me of the Cool Hand Luke’s star – Paul Newman, when he was very young. He brings a very cool and sexy, yet intelligent and sharp feel to this movie about the young and hungry stockbrokers on Wall Street, without the vulgar language and unnecessary sex scenes – a nice tale about falling in love with the wrong guy when you get wrapped up so tightly in your career. Though it was a tale that has been told before, it does trick you in the end, and I applaud that since it doesn’t happen to me very often. It’s worth seeing and I am glad that I did. . . ...(read more)

FINALLY!! An amazing Oscar performance which unfortunately does not arrive until mid-movie, but a somewhat unknown actress. This was a difficult movie to watch, especially at the holidays when you don't really want to see a downer movie . . . and that is truly what it was. Until the mother of the black student appears on the screen and lights up the entire theater with her electric performance. I felt like I was hit by lightening (and gladly), but probably because such great performances have been hard to find these past few years. Our perception of greatness has been tainted with average to above average films being peddled off to us these past couple of years by marketing companies convincing us of a film's greatess - and we walk away feeling empty. It was worth sitting through the rest of this film just to see Viola Davis's performance - thank you, Viola! I understand that Kate Winslet has done an equally remarkable job in "The Reader" - and I can't wait to see it! ...(read more)
I've been waiting all year to finally see a really GOOD MOVIE!! The kind, like this one, where the entire audience is completely captivated through the entire movie not wanting to miss a single word or scene - the kind of movies we use to go see in the '90s whenever we went to the show! FINALLY - and most of all, I can't wait to see it again. Afterall, really great movies are rare this year! Kate Winslet has never deserved an Oscar like she does for this one, and it also stars an amazing newcomer, David Kross - very much a young Heath Ledger! He wow'd me and everyone else with his performance. The direction was perfection as was the photography . . . BRAVO! More than worth the price of admission . . . you'll want to take someone else to see it - it's that good! ...(read more)

This move was a real surprise . . . didn't plan to see it, but REALLY glad I did. I don't think the advertising for it was suitable, as I found it to be something completely different. It was hillarious in ways, seeing this old guy get surprised by this young couple, who could NOT be more different than him. And how he blossoms as a person as result of that . . . great premise, great acting and entertaining. And, look out for this newcomer, Haaz Sleiman, who has the charisma and acting ability that can catapult him to great success . . . nice to see that kind of unique energy abounding from the screen! We need more of that from this generation, that is for sure!! ...(read more)

Just way too much violence than necessary. I am not a big "cop movie" person, unless it has some great suspense. Street Kings has its share of suspense, but the violence overrode it. Great to see Keanu again - he's looking so fine !!!!!!! and I liked the premise, it just got choked out by unnecessary violence. Oddly enough, it still is worth seeing - Keanu can do that to a move. His appeal is ageless . . . crosses over generations. It is unfortunate that his friend, River Pheonix, had such an untimely death - I think they would have made a great cop/spy/agent partner-duo. But, he's pretty fine all by himself. ...(read more)
