    500 days of summer

i think it was a really, really done movie with lots of creative tidbits in it. The only thing that really got to me though was that it was a true-to-life film. The imagery switches back and forth from the imaginary to the real, but at the end of the day, its message is very real and sad.

I really enjoyed the movie. Just dont expect a love story with a hollywood ending.

    Not a love story...

Or so they say in the beginning of the film. That's not true. It is a love story. It just doesn't go the traditional route. I actually really enjoyed watching 500 Days. Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel are very talented actors who pull this movie off almost entirely by themselves. The supporting cast is alright and they provide an occassionally needed distraction.

Now I need to warn you, this is an art-house film. The director has his own "vision" and the film moves slowly. There is no real climax or intense drama, so if you need a fast-paced, intense plot to keep you interested, stay away from this one. This movie depends on the audience becoming truly involved and being patient.

It is also inappropriate for kids under the age of 13. A teen might be bored.

There is quite a bit of language and some sexual situations and sexual innuendos. No unnecessary graphic sex scenes, which my husband and I appreciated.

Kudos to Zooey and Joseph for a job well done!

    Poignant and wonderful.

It's one of those movies that will either resonate with you...or not. But I think most people can identify with what this movie tries to convey (successfully, in my opinion). Personally, I went to see (500) Days of Summer knowing that I'll walk out loving it - and I did. But it exceeding my expectations on the emotional roller coaster ride that it takes you on through life's unpredictable, uncontrollable, blissful, painful, and wonderful experiences.
This movie isn't a love story - and it makes that clear from the beginning. It is what it is, just as life is what it is. Neither uplifting, nor depressing. It's a gentle reminder that love isn't as simple as we often make it out to be - and how absolutely helpless we can be in it's presence.

Best Feel-Good Movie That I've Seen In YEARS!

This is by far the best movie I've seen in a long time. I've been happy about seeing it for days now, still humming the soundtrack. This movie was funny, sweet, surprising, hilarious, and just the best thing I've seen in a long time.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is AMAZINGLY appealing in this movie. I knew that Zoey Deschanel was appealing -- my husband has always thought she was cute -- but Gordon-Levitt was a really nice surprise. His performance makes me forget that he was ever a child star (on Third Rock from the Sun). He could have a very nice future ahead of him as a romantic comedy lead at the very least, and any kind of movie at best.

The movie's use of music is wonderful -- and the one dance scene, extremely clever. The shots of Los Angeles are amazing -- I don't know HOW they found places in Los Angeles that make you think of charming areas of Boston or New York. Run, don't walk, to see this movie. If you have a heart at all, you won't regret it.

A wonderful story about love, that isn't a love story...

The movie starts with a dedication of sorts, and sets the tone for the whole movie. The rest of the movie is a non-linear voyage through the time of one man's relationship - or lack thereof - with a woman named Summer. Zooey Deschanel as the titular character is captivating, and like most of her roles; seemingly too wild to keep a hold on. She starts off telling the main character, Tom (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), that she's just looking to keep things simple. Naturally, Tom can't do that, as he sees Summer as "the one!"

The movie hits highs and lows, and with the way we jump through time, they're usually paired together. It makes the movie a lot more interesting than it would probably be, if it were just played straight. But, to see this unconventional - and yet, from my perspective, totally realistic - take on falling in love go in some of the directions it does makes this movie one that everyone should really see.

    Very enjoyable movie

No, it's not a classic, but compared to some of the trash out there this summer, the movie is one that should be seen. It is the classic "boy meets girl" story, but told from the guy's perspective. The movie does not attempt to solve the world's problems, but it give you an hour and a half of enjoyment and light entertainment. I highly recommend it. And the soundtrack is great as well. Who wouldn't fall in love with Zooey D.?

    Wonderful

One of the best movies this summer by far. I don't watch previews because they show too much of the movie and seem to give you a biased opinion on how you think the movie should go, but when you finally watch it you are either vindicated or left wanting. Maybe it was the opening dialogue or the sweet music that made this movie extra special, but I loved that it was not a love story, but the telling of a relationship that could happen or has happened to anyone. Levitt and Dechanel are cute and were brilliant together with an easy chemistry. Wouldn't mind watching again.

If you want to watch this movie for: Plot = GO. Storyline = Must GO, Characters = Must GO, Music= GO

    Solid

Despite a few borrowed ideas from Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, this is a very good movie. It's funny, silly, sad, and depressing, but it never seems like it's trying to force any emotion out of you. It's not a bit formulaic, and even though there is a lot of skipping around in time, it is not hard to follow and the skipping serves the film well. The music is also very well chosen and flows through the movie without being overbearing. If you do like romantic comedies, or even if you don't, you should see this movie.

    Silly fandango...

    by

I almost feel like people shouldn't be able to to rate the movie unless they've seen it and are willing to write a review, because this movie deserves far more than a so-so rating. I'd say it's more if a "go and a half" or a solid B+. Zooey Deschanel is one of my favorite people of all time, which is why I went to see this movie. I have to say, her acting was brilliant, although her character is sort of... dislikeable. Because we see the film through "Tom's" eyes.

Anyway, I enjoyed this film a lot. It was fun, quirky, and very real. I came out of it thinking, "I feel like a good friend just told me about their life." It's not the most hilarious or the most romantic or the most inspiring film ever -- it's just a really good film, because it's told so honestly. I say, definitely go, especially during this warm weather. :)

    500 DAYS OF SUMMER

Watching 500 DAYS OF SUMMER as a 50+ year old was similar to experiencing THE GRADUATE as a young teenager. Wonderfully cast, insightful, and terrifically enjoyable.

Fantastic movie!!! I went in with high expectations and they were more than met. I absolutely love Zooey ever since Almost Famous, and Joseph is emerging as somewhat of a gen Y John Cusack. I really hope that this movie wins some awards, or at least gets nominated. Great cinematography. Very quotable. I could be a little biased as this story has matched almost verbatim to a relationship I had a few years ago. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental. Especially you Lindsay B, *****.

    Great movie, finally

This was a perfect date movie, even being married 18 years. My wife thought it was great and I thought it was funny, creative and interesting -- so no, it's not the typical chick flick. The ending is not completely predictable and the humor is sometimes unexpected.
Guys, if you must choose a movie you can see with your gal, choose this one.

    Clever, Great Performances, and Lifting!

I never thought that karaoke would be one of the funniest activities I've ever seen, and (500) Days of Summer accomplishes that task, two stars with great chemistry just by looking at them Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gorden- Levitt, which this performance make them both shining stars, and this story about love really isn't really a love story (call me crazy!) It's mostly a documentary explaining realistically, not make it all glamorous, the ups and downs of the complicated subject "LOVE" . Plus with gut-busting laughs and lifiting moments of Summer and Tom's problems and absolute happiness's of their heart pounding relationship and connection. This is a must-see because its different, its not a Hes Just Not That Into You kinda story that we've all seen and one day going to ban it from the world (That's what I pray as being a reviewer!), its so spirit-lifting. So go see (500) Days Of Summer and watch a relationship that will make you laugh hilariously and make you ball and cheer!

    WHAT A GEM!!!

A joyous and honest portrayal of Los Angeles that I will return to view over and over again.

With incorporation of animation, motion graphics, stellar performances from the entire cast, and a heart-wrenching story to boot...this is a movie that I will adore for year to come!

Indie in feel, but blockbuster quality all around. A perfect combination of kitschy and class that is just filled bittersweet, heart-stopping honesty and humor.

    AMAZING!
