A wonderful story about love, that isn't a love story...
The movie starts with a dedication of sorts, and sets the tone for the whole movie. The rest of the movie is a non-linear voyage through the time of one man's relationship - or lack thereof - with a woman named Summer. Zooey Deschanel as the titular character is captivating, and like most of her roles; seemingly too wild to keep a hold on. She starts off telling the main character, Tom (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), that she's just looking to keep things simple. Naturally, Tom can't do that, as he sees Summer as "the one!"
The movie hits highs and lows, and with the way we jump through time, they're usually paired together. It makes the movie a lot more interesting than it would probably be, if it were just played straight. But, to see this unconventional - and yet, from my perspective, totally realistic - take on falling in love go in some of the directions it does makes this movie one that everyone should really see.
